Parts of the historic peninsula are pedestrianised or restricted. The driver takes you to the closest point a car is allowed and walks the remaining short distance with your bags where needed.
Booking in advance matters here: arrivals taxi queues at IST are long in the evening and the drive is one of the longest airport runs in the city.
