Sultanahmet — the old city around Hagia Sophia and the Blue Mosque — is roughly 50 km from Istanbul Airport, normally 55 minutes by motorway and the coastal Kennedy Caddesi.
Parts of the historic peninsula are pedestrianised or restricted. The driver takes you to the closest point a car is allowed and walks the remaining short distance with your bags where needed.
Booking in advance matters here: arrivals taxi queues at IST are long in the evening and the drive is one of the longest airport runs in the city.
Some Sultanahmet streets are closed to traffic; drop-off is at the nearest permitted point to your hotel.
